Who we are

Reading is the bridge to equity.

One vision, one mission, five values. This is the whole playbook.

Our vision

Partners in Literacy Haiti collaborates with the Haitian people, libraries and educational institutions so that reading proficiency and learning success rise together.

Our mission

Enhance reading through Kreyòl books, technology and training for children from birth to eight years old, their families and their teachers, in community libraries, schools and centers.

What we stand on

Five values, lived daily

Partnership

We partner with organizations that share our vision. Never alone, never around the community.

Action

As many children as possible, as early as possible. The first years are when a brain builds itself.

Education

Passion for learning, with the flexibility to find new solutions when old ones stop working.

Stewardship

Every dollar is used responsibly. Our board is entirely volunteer.

Literacy equality

We raise the reading ability of the most marginalized children first, not last.

Global alignment

Part of the United Nations 2030 agenda

The UN names libraries as key partners in its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, because a library gives a community access to information, protects cultural heritage and puts knowledge in people's hands. Every PILH village library advances that agenda.
